Romantic Getaway Weekend Eats!

February 11, 2019

Weekend eats! We visited The Shanty Restaurant in Wadsworth, IL this weekend. It had been featured on The Food Network, so since we were near the area celebrating Meeks' birthday we decided to give it a shot. There was a 45-minute wait to get a table, but it was well worth it.

Meeks had the Blackened Conch Filet Mingnon, and loved every bite of it. For me, there weren't very many plant-based options; but the options they had were sufficient. I ended up doing the "Pick a Pasta" and choosing Cavatappi Corkscrew noodles with Tomato Vodka sauce and Sautéed Vegetables as a topping. Like Meeks' I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

The portion sizes were more than enough for each of us. As a matter of fact, the sweet potato fries came with Meeks' meal; and on top of being OUTSTANDING; they could have been a meal in and of itself. Of course we shared them and they warrant their own photo due to them being perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and just sweet enough. Seriously, those fries were dang near PERFECT!

In my opinion, it was the perfect meal for the perfect weekend and we will definitely make a return visit when we are in the area.

What an honor it was for Meeks to be recognized by Black Wives Rock over the weekend!

True Love is Literally Right Around the Corner

One of the most fascinating facts regarding me and Meeks' is that from the day we first met in 1994, with the exception of a three year period, we never lived more than walking distance away from each other. Throughout all the various stages of life and changes that we endured; it is a fact that...[continue]
